eRDPml & RDP Practice Questions

Get fast and accurate with the Recreational Dive Planner and the eRDPml — pressure groups, surface intervals, multilevel dives, and no-decompression limits — through unlimited practice questions.

What this topic covers

Dive-planning questions trip up more Divemaster and Instructor candidates than any other topic, because they demand accurate, repeatable table work under time pressure. Practice until reading the RDP and eRDPml is second nature.

Sample questions

A taste of the style. In the app you get a fresh set every time.

When using the Recreational Dive Planner, if your exact depth isn't listed on the table, you should:

  • ARound down to the next shallower depth
  • BRound up to the next greater depthCorrect
  • CAverage the two nearest depths
  • DUse the surface interval instead

Why: Always round depth (and time) UP to the next listed value on the RDP — the more conservative choice.

The primary purpose of a surface interval between two dives is to:

  • ALet equipment dry out
  • BAllow the body to release absorbed nitrogenCorrect
  • CWarm the diver back up
  • DReset the dive computer

Why: A surface interval lets the body off-gas nitrogen, moving the diver to a lower pressure group before the next dive.

FAQ

What is the difference between the RDP and the eRDPml?

The RDP is the printed table (and wheel) version of the Recreational Dive Planner; the eRDPml is the electronic multilevel version. Both plan no-decompression dives and are tested on the Divemaster and Instructor exams.

Why is dive planning the hardest exam topic?

It requires accurate, repeatable table lookups — round depth and time up, track pressure groups, and apply surface intervals correctly. Repetition is the only way to make it reliable, which is what unlimited practice gives you.
