What's on the Divemaster exam

The Divemaster final exam is a 120-question test — two 60-question sections — spanning dive theory and dive-professional knowledge. Our engine drills each dive-theory area separately (physics, physiology, equipment, decompression, dive planning) and then builds full mock exams, so you master every section before test day.

Sample Divemaster exam questions

A taste of the style and difficulty. In the app you get a fresh set every time.

Compared with salt water, fresh water requires a diver to descend slightly deeper to add each additional bar of pressure. This is because fresh water:

  • AIs denser than salt water
  • BIs less dense than salt waterCorrect
  • CHolds more dissolved nitrogen
  • DIs always colder than salt water

Why: Fresh water is less dense, so a greater depth of it is needed to produce the same pressure increase as salt water.

When supervising a group of certified divers, a Divemaster's primary responsibility is to:

  • APhysically lead every diver by the hand
  • BAssess conditions, brief the divers, and manage the dive for safetyCorrect
  • CComplete the dive as quickly as possible
  • DLet each diver plan entirely on their own with no briefing

Why: A Divemaster evaluates the site and conditions, briefs the divers, and actively manages the dive to keep everyone safe.
